The 2027 BMW iX3 brings the Neue Klasse vision to life as BMW's first series-production electric Sports Activity Vehicle of this groundbreaking generation. This fully electric SAV arrives in Canada mid-2026 with sixth-generation eDrive technology, an estimated range of up to 650 kilometres, and a driver-focused interface that redefines the digital experience. Built at BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary, the iX3 50 xDrive combines dual-motor all-wheel drive with 463 horsepower to deliver the ultimate electric driving experience.
The iX3 introduces BMW's new design language through clean surfaces and reduced detailing. At 4,782 millimetres long, 1,895 millimetres wide, and 1,646 millimetres tall, this SAV displays the authoritative stance of a BMW X model. The 2,897-millimetre wheelbase and wide track widths of 1,628 millimetres front and 1,633 millimetres rear create a planted road presence. Body-coloured wheel arches and subtly rectangular contours emphasize the vehicle's muscular stature, while slim side windows and a slightly downward-sloping roofline optimize aerodynamics to achieve a drag coefficient of 0.24.
The front end features vertically arranged BMW kidneys embedded into the surface, evoking the iconic Neue Klasse vehicles of the 1960s and 1970s. A horizontal light signature replaces traditional chrome elements, and the redesigned BMW roundel sits above the kidneys in the hood's valley. Sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology powers the iX3 50 xDrive through two electric motors generating a combined 463 horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque. This dual-motor all-wheel-drive configuration enables acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in an estimated 4.9 seconds, with a top speed of 210 kilometres per hour. The rear axle features an extensively upgraded Electrically Excited Synchronous Motor, while a new Asynchronous Motor drives the front axle. This combination reduces energy losses by 40 percent compared to fifth-generation technology, cuts weight by 10 percent, and lowers manufacturing costs by 20 percent.
The high-voltage battery uses lithium-ion cylindrical cells with 20 percent higher energy density than the previous generation. Cells integrate directly into the battery pack, which itself becomes a structural component of the vehicle architecture to minimize weight. The battery enables an estimated range of up to 650 kilometres according to preliminary BMW AG tests based on EPA test procedure standards. An 800-volt architecture and 400-kilowatt peak charging rate allow charging from 10 to 80 percent capacity in just 21 minutes at compatible DC stations. At home, the iX3 50 xDrive charges at up to 19.2 kilowatts when connected to the available BMW Wallbox Professional.
BMW Panoramic iDrive defines the digital experience in the iX3 through a balance of digital functions and physical elements. The system comprises four key components: the BMW Panoramic Vision, a 17.9-inch Central Display, a multifunction steering wheel, and an optional BMW 3D Head-Up Display. The BMW Panoramic Vision projects relevant information across the entire base of the windscreen from one side to the other. The most important driving information appears directly in the driver's line of sight, while the driver can personalize content in the central and right-hand areas via the Central Display.
The Central Display features a QuickSelect menu structure for optimum touch operation. Its home screen continuously shows the BMW Maps navigation system's map view or individually configurable content. Vertically arranged widgets on the driver's side can be switched between by swiping, and swiping horizontally displays additional information and settings. The multifunction steering wheel employs a shy-tech approach, with available functions indicated by illuminating the corresponding buttons. Relief-like button surfaces provide optimum orientation and enable manual control without taking eyes off the road.
